This semester has come and gone in a flash! Ed Tech has become one of my favourite classes from the semester! I loved how engaging it was and all the amazing people I got to meet. I still remember logging into zoom for the first time and seeing so many unfamiliar faces! Throughout the course of this class, I began to slowly meet the people from when we got divided into breakout rooms and through reading people’s blogs! This class is filled with many knowledgeable and talented human beings.
I feel like I contributed to many of my classmate’s learning through the 13 weeks of this class! I felt like I contributed lots to my classmate’s learning from commenting on blog posts. I tried to at least comment on 3-7 blog posts a week. I loved being able to watch my classmates grow through their learning projects. Through reading the blogs I was also able to find knowledgeable information that I could use in the future.
I feel like I also got to contribute to my classmates learning through Twitter! I just began using twitter at the beginning of this course and found out that I really enjoyed it! On Twitter, I was able to share valuable information and resources with all my classmates for them to use whenever they need! I love that on Twitter you are able to connect with anyone from around the world. It is a place to build a big community.
I loved being able to contribute to one of my classmate’s learning from doing a group assignment! I was placed with Ashlyn Helmeczi and got to cybersleuth her social media accounts! I got to allow her to know what I could see on her account and gave her feedback on what she could delete or change!
I am very upset that this class is now wrapped up but I am thankful for everything I have learned from everyone! This is going to continue to be a learning journey for everyone! The learning never stops! Thanks for following along with all of my learning! Hope to see you again soon!
This semester has wrapped up a lot faster than I pictured it would have. I can’t even explain in words how much I have enjoyed learning about different types of photography throughout my learning project. I have come to enjoy taking pictures so much more than I used to. I have learned that pictures can mean so much more than we might see them as well. I decided that with my learning from the semester I wanted to take portrait and action shot photos of people in my life I am thankful for.
Throughout my photography learning journey I learned lots on how to properly take certain kinds of photos. Here is what I found about each and tips on how to get the best shots!
January 22nd: Micro Photography:Best for getting great detail from an object. You are able to get the best photo when the canon is left on the close-up setting. The objects will stand out a lot more if you take the photo with a solid background. The bigger the lens you have the better, but it is not mandatory! I took my pictures with an 18-55mm lens and it did the trick!
January 29th: Black & White:This type of photo is open ended to which setting to use. These photos are exactly what they are said to be with the photo edited to be black and white. These photos can be edited with your I phone or any other editing app! They are one of my favorites because I feel sometimes just having no co lour gives the photo more character!
February 5th:Action Photos: I found these photos a lot harder than I would have ever thought! It helps to keep your camera in sports mode. Make sure to have the camera set to continuous shooting mode so it is able to take a lot of photos to catch the object or person in action. This type of photography is great for getting photos of playing sports or doing anything that contains fast motion movements.
February 12th:Landscape:Best shots were taken when the camera is left in landscape mode. Using a tripod for these photos also helps a lot. If you are able to take these photos during a golden hour, sunset or sunrise they will come out to look beautiful! Sask skies are amazing to capture with the camera! I was able to use the beauty of my own yard to capture most of these photos. You notice with your pictures that things that are so simple can turn out to be the most beautiful pictures. Animal Photography: These photos work best when the camera is in the sports mode if the animal you are taking shots of doesn’t sit still! If your animal is calm the camera is good to stay in its regular AV mode and can make the photo stand out by zooming in
February 26th: Food Photography: These types of photos are made to make your mouth water. These photos turned out best when the camera is left in AV mode. This mode adjusts your shutter speed to give the object it’s taking a picture of the right amount of light. I learned that to get the perfect shots of your food you have to try different angles and the zoom feature is your best friend This type of photography was probably my least favorite because every time I go back and look at it I get hungry.
March 4th: Reflection Photos:I found that these photos were the hardest out of all the different types to take. These photos are all about the angle. I found that editing these types of photos made a huge difference in how clear you could see the reflection. I used the editing options on my iPhone XR and turned the brightness down and turned up the contrast on the photo. These photos would turn out awesome in the summer when you are able to get the reflection off the lake with the sunset!
March 11th:Timer Cam: These work best with a tripod! They are great for getting group photos so no one gets left out. Best left on the AV mode on the canon rebel xsi. I loved how I was able to get into these photos as well. My camera gave me 10 seconds before taking the photos which helped everyone somewhat get ready! Using the timer it seems like you are able to capture funny and realistic photos of how picture taking usually goes! The best part is looking through all the photos afterward!
April 1st: Candid/ Portrait: This type of photography has become one of my favorites to capture! Portrait photos are great for when you’re just trying to focus the shot on one person. Using the portrait mode on the camera will take the best shots. Having good light exposure, solid backgrounds and being able to blur out backgrounds will make these types of photos stand out. Being able to alter the angles you take the photos from will make the photo a lot more fun.
I know that I am nowhere near being a professional at taking photos but the amount of knowledge that I took from this learning project will now be with me forever. I am more than proud of the photos I was able to capture over this semester! I have learned that :
Your only going to get better with practice
You are able to achieve anything if you put your heart and mind to it
Cameras have a lot of different settings to play around with to capture different types of shots
Playing around with different angles and props really help with getting awesome and unique photos
Not every shot is going to turn out how you want but patience is key
For my final learning project, I wanted to come up with something that would mean something to me and show my friends why I am so thankful for them. With the photography skills I have learned over my journey I was able to take shots of my friends that show and capture who they are as a person. You can see why my life is full of smiles because of these beautiful people.
This is my happiness. These are the people that have been by my side through everything. The ups, the downs and everything in between. They are the people that shaped me to be the human that I am today. They made me believe in myself and push myself to be the best that I could be. Without them, my life would honestly be nothing.

He is so encouraging and pushes me to do whatever I put my mind to. I am so happy to have found a man like Mason.
Shaelyn- Shaelyn is my sister and my better half. Shaelyn is the most considerate and most patient person you will meet. She has her own way of thinking but is reliable for everything. She is quieter out of us two but once she warms up to people she’s just as outgoing. Shaelyn is always there for a shoulder to cry and for support. She will always be my best friend and I have no clue where I would be if my parents didn’t bless me with a sister like her.
Brooke – Brooke is definitely one of a kind. Brooke is always very upbeat and very talkative. She is able to make friends with anyone and is the type of person that can make someone laugh over anything. She is a person that is full of energy and isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind. Brooke is my adventure partner because she also has the travel bug inside her. I love the person that Brooke is and the bright personality that she has. I will never get tired of having a friend like Brooke around.
Kaylee- Kaylee is an all-around amazing person. Even though I have only known Kaylee since I was in grade 10 we have been close ever since we met. Kaylee has the biggest heart and always puts others before herself. You can always find Kaylee with a smile on her face and spreading positivity to those around her.Kaylee is naturally beautiful and has a sparkle in her eye. I am so glad I was blessed to have met a human as kind and compassionate as Kaylee.
Breanne/Kaitlin- Breanne and Kaitlin have been my adopted sisters ever since elementary school. We grew up doing everything together and being inseparable. Kaitlin has a very wild and energetic personality. Breanne has a very laid back personality and is very considerate to everyone around her. Both these girls’ smiles light up a room. They are two beautiful humans that I have always looked up too. Both of them have always been for me no matter what was going on. So glad to have grown up with these two by my side.
Brooklyn – Brooklyn is a person with such a beautiful soul. She is honestly someone that is always full of good vibes and can always turn a bad day better. She is someone you can always see smiling and making others around her feel the same way. I love how Brooklyn is always so positive and puts everyone before herself. I am so thankful to have a best friend like Brooklyn in my life
Lexy – Lexy is one of my best friends that has always been a ray of sunshine. Lexy has a personality that is always ready for anything that life throws at her. She looks at the positives for everything and can make any day better. Lexy has a heart full of gold with such a bubbly personality. I am so thankful to be blessed with such a kind-hearted human in my life.
Brandi- Brandi is one of my friends that has such a kind soul. She has always been one to cheer me up when I’ve been down and is always ready to do exciting things. Every time we are together the time is spent full of laughter and new adventures. Brandi is a beautiful human that has cheered me when I am struggling with something in my life. She will do anything she can to see her friends happy. I am blessed to have Brandi in my life.
Emma- Emma is one of my friends that is so considerate of everyone and everything. She is always worrying about other people and is known as the mom of our friend group. She has a heart of gold and always pushes herself and others to do their best. Emma is someone who puts life into perspective and just makes the best of whatever life throws at her. Everything about Emma is amazing. I am so lucky to have such a determined, beautiful, and energetic friend in my life.
Kristiaan: Kristiaan is the most determined girl I know. She strives to do her best in everything she does. Kristiaans laugh is so contagious and can make any bad day better. She has such a friendly personality that makes her able to get along with everyone. Her positive outlook on life is something I strive to do in my life as well. This beautiful soul is the perfect role model for anyone. I am so lucky to have met a girl like Kristiaan
My Entire Family- Both sides of my family are huge so I didn’t have time to capture pictures of everyone. Since I was little they have all had huge impacts on my life. They supported me through every decision I’ve made and were always there when I needed that extra support. I will continue to thank God for the wonderful family he blessed me with.
My Grandma- My Grandma Helen definitely has a way with words however with being 85 she no longer has a filter! My grandma is always full of new stories and advice for all of her grandchildren. Grandma has a huge heart and would do anything to see her family happy. She has such a bright personality and is a person that is very easy to talk to. With her being my only grandparent left, I am thankful for the time I still get to spend with her.
My parents – I will forever be grateful for the parents I have been given. They have raised me to be the woman I am today. They have always been there to support me through all my goals, push me through my struggles and have always been my rock. They have taught me to love and how to just enjoy the life I have been given. My mom’s big heart has taught me to never take anything for granted and as she says to do everything you dream of. My dad’s determined personality has taught me to work hard for what I want and to never give up on anything. If you give me anything time it’ll come. Their trust and the unconditional love they give me will always be something that I envy.
There is no way that I would ever be able to put everyone that has made a difference in my life in this end project! I have had so many amazing people bless my life over the 20 years I have walked this earth.
I know that no life is ever going to be perfect, but it’s only going to be as perfect as you make it. I live up to that.
This week to try coding by myself for the first time I attempted to make the game Flappy Fish on Code.org. I spent way more time on this website than I probably should have hahaha! I enjoyed it a lot more when I got the hang of things. I played around with a lot of the different coding options before I decided that the flappy bid was my favorite choice.
I loved how this coding program on code.org was very straightforward! Since I have never done coding before it made it easy enough for me to figure it all out! I learned how one little thing can change the whole view on how your fish or object was to move. When coding you have to be very specific on what you put in your workspace! I did watch some videos to help get me started but after that, it was a breeze! I learned that there are so many different things to add to your games such as sounds, points, obstacles, and also the speed that your animal moves. In my Flappy Fish game, my fish flaps through the water and goes through the plant obstacles with the click of the mouse. It keeps track of how many obstacles you are able to get through and once you hit one the game ends and you have to restart the game! I love how these websites can be fun for all ages since they have so many different categories to choose from! The best thing about it all is that these websites are FREE!
I think learning about coding is important because it allows the children or anybody to experiment and to test out their creativity! When looking through different websites I found one that explained eight reasons why you should teach your children to code. It also has different online courses for every age-linked on how to code.
I have posted in the picture above the link to my Flappy Fish game! If anyone is interested in trying out the game on their smartphone the website makes it possible for that to happen! Just comment your phone number and I can send you the link! How AWESOME is that?!?! I am very excited to see what coding everyone else decided to try!
Teaching about digital literacy in the k-8 grade level could be somewhat of a challenge. Not so much with grades 5-8 but more so with the little ones. Most of the smaller kids won’t understand what you are talking about nor what you are trying to get them to notice when looking on the internet. Most of the little kids from K-1 can barely read so this type of information wouldn’t really phase them at that age. If I was being placed in the age range from grade 5-6 I believe there are many ways to incorporate this into the lessons.
As I read on the Ed Can fact sheet that Katia is an expert on, I took note of the many great strategies that were listed. I believe that when teaching children for what websites they should gather their information from they should remember to use verification websites so they are able to only read resourceful information. As teachers, we should continue to give the students examples of fake news websites and real/ resourceful information and have their minds determine which is which and explain how they know. This will allow the children to get practice on what to look for when they are trying to stay up to date with everything going on around the world. The would fit great into social studies in the curriculum with the current events.
I googled tips on how to properly teach students about digital literacy and the tips that showed up fit perfectly for the age range I needed them for. The students are usually 10-11 years old in the grades and are using technology a lot when they are at school and are at home. I believe the most important step is to teaching the students how to be safe and responsible online. Most importantly to teach them the importance of critical thinking and them not believing everything they read that may be on the internet.
Reading the comic article I love how it states that “I let the emotional cortex fight its little fight, And then I listen. And then I change. Because this universe of ours is so achingly beautiful. And we’re all in it together. We’re all going in the same direction. I’m not here to take control of the wheel. Or tell you what to do. I’m just here to tell you its okay to stop. To listen. To change”. To me, this indicated that everyone is going to have their own opinion but you should never force people to believe in what you believe in. News is constantly coming from everywhere and not everything is going to be true. We need to stop, look to make sure its REAL news and then try to find other articles on news websites to confirm.
In the TedED video, they state a lot of very useful information. I found it interesting when they stated: “if everyone is a reporter nobody is”. Many sources may only come from people that didn’t read the real information/ stories and are anonymous sources. To keep in mind it is important to teach our students to separate the facts from opinions. The video encouraged us to try checking for the latest information at several points in the day rather than every few minutes. Allowing for complete details to emerge and false reports to be refueded. We need to remember to verify the news before spreading it. We have so much freedom on the internet in today’s society. But with the freedom, we need to remember that it comes responsibility.

Becoming an educator has always been a dream of mine since I was little. I always wanted a career that worked with kids of all ages. I love how being an educator you never know what grade you will be teaching and each day is always a new adventure. As an educator, every day you strive to conquer new obstacles from the students you have in your classroom. You as the teacher get to always think of new ways to teach the students so they are able to learn in a way that’s best for them. No student learns the same way, so being able to alter your lessons to allow everyone to learn the concept is one of the biggest obstacles for a teacher.
I am in the Indigenous Education program because I feel the schools around me are lacking teaching the content and pedagogies within the schools. I want the students to be able to learn in a way that is best for them and feels the most comfortable. I plan on striving to teach with a more holistic approach which includes: hands-on learning activities, experiential learning, and land-based learning. I want to get the students away from always sitting at their desks and having to do worksheets. I want the students to learn in a fun and engaging way.
The greatest thing about being an educator is being able to watch the students grow and succeed throughout the year. Being the educator you are the one teaching the students but it is incredible how much you learn from the students as well. I want to be an educator so I can create a classroom that students feel is a safe place to go and learn in. In my past experiences as a student, the teachers I learned the most from were the ones that I felt comfortable around and that I looked up to. I want to be the educator that the students look up to as being their role model and have them look forward to attending and learning from the classes I teach.
This week I decided to focus more on learning how to edit my photos! Have you ever had some object or item wreck your entire photo? I never thought anything was able to remove it and the picture was just wrecked because of the photo bomber! Technology saved the day on this one!
I was watching videos on tik tok one day and came across this video! It showed what app to use to erase any unwanted objects in your photos. Not only did it give the name of the app which was Retouch but in 60 seconds it also explained how to use it! CRAZY RIGHT? I love tik tok for the reason you never know what you are going to come across! Whenever I have extra time on my hands I love going on tik tok to see what I can find! I got my wisdom teeth out last Thursday so I’ve had quite a bit of time to browse lol!
The app that was recommended on tik tok costed money so instead, I tried an app called removal lite! This app was free which is so much better for a college student’s bank account lol! I found that it worked very similar to the one shown on tik tok! It didn’t have as many options, but it did have everything I needed to erase the unwanted things out of my pictures!
I think this app will come in handy and can also be very useful to use in the classroom as well. This will be good for when there are pictures being taken in the classroom and maybe a kid that doesn’t have permission to have his face on the internet gets in on the background of the picture. This app will allow you to erase them out of the picture completely!
Instead of taking new pictures this week, I decided to scroll back to some of my older photos to erase the unwanted objects out of them! Here are some before and after pictures of how well the app worked! As you can see the app doesn’t do a 100% job but it still erases the objects that you don’t want to be there. I think the Retouch app would be a little bit better but as the saying goes “you get what you pay for”
What’s better than being able to capture shots during a fun event? Nothing that I can think of, hahaha! I had so much fun being able to capture different parts of this birthday party! I really felt that I was able to capture the mood with the photos that I took.
The smiles, the laughs, and the constant bonding were the main things I was trying to capture throughout the night. People talking and catching up on their lives and overall just having a good time. My main goal was to get a picture with everyone in the photo including myself so I attempted in using the self-timer on the camera while using my tripod. I didn’t get everyone in because the boys didn’t want to cooperate so I got one of the majority of the girls and I. This was my first time using the timer option on the camera and was amazed by how well it turned out. I watched a video on youtube on how to set my camera to the correct timer settings. My camera allowed me to choose to have a 3-second or 10-second countdown which was very helpful. We are a very dysfunctional group and we definitely needed that 10 seconds to be ready for the picture. (I think we didn’t end up getting the picture-perfect photo but we got one that outlines the personalities we all have haha!) I learned that by clicking the timer button the camera you are able to scroll over and decide how many pictures you want the camera to take as well. This acted just like a burst option on the I-phone.
Throughout the night I was able to use different styles of photography including portrait shots, action shots, candids, timer cam, and group photos. This way I was really able to capture people’s emotions throughout the night as well as pictures with me in them. I felt like I at least needed to get into some group photos lol.
Here’s a quick 1 minute tutorial on how to use the self timer on the Canon Rebel XSI
Overall it was such a great night and now we have multiple photos everyone will be able to reflect back on. It was my sister’s 22nd birthday so now she will have these pictures forever and to have as a keepsake. I 100% think that taking pictures is the best thing people can do: They make such good memories and they will always be there for you to look back on 20- 50 years from now! Pictures are gifts in themselves❤️
Being able to act as a spy and see what we could find out our partners was a lot more fun than I thought. It is crazy to see what others can see that you may have known was visible!
I had the chance to friendly sleuth on Ashlyn’s social media. I have her on every social media except for Facebook so I pretty much had full access to all her posts. I believe it would have been a lot different if I didn’t have her on everything and wasn’t able to access everything throughout her accounts. Here is what I found out about Ashlyn while looking through all of her social media!
I thought my social media accounts were a lot more private then they came out to be. Even though Ashlyn doesn’t have me on Facebook she was still able to see all my photos including the ones that I was tagged in. This got me thinking and realizing that I have to make my accounts a lot more private, especially since I am going into an education career where the little kids are like a little spy’s finding out anything they can on their teacher. I can admit that I live a pretty interesting life with traveling lots, going to many different events, and always being involved in different activities. I feel like with being a teacher it is important to keep my social life away from my students. I need to keep a professional figure around my students and their families.
I read the article Split Image about the girl named Madison. A heartbreaking article to read since no one in her family knew that Madison was upset or planning to kill herself. It’s sad to read something so tragic but the sad thing is that it happens all the time. A line in the article that really stuck out to me was that “everyone presents an edited version of life on social media”. Even though some people have a hard time admitting it, it is 100% true. My social media makes it look like I live a perfect life full of traveling, activities, family, and friends. I am not the one to post my struggles or my feelings but I can admit I go through tough days just like every other human on this planet. I strongly believe that no life will be perfect because without struggles or obstacles we could not make ourselves the strong people we are. As this article states that “it is OK to not be OK”. This line will always be an important quote to remember. As teachers, we need to make talking about mental awareness a normal thing. Letting the students know that there is always someone that is willing to talk and things do get better. Everyone needs to know that they are not alone and that there is always help available. As teachers, we also have to remind students to be careful about what they post on the internet. In the video One Tweet Can Ruin Your Life it knows you what kind of impact social media can have on a person. It shows that no matter what you post on the internet will be there forever. It is important to watch what you say and what you post especially if it could be hurtful or inappropriate for others to see. The internet is a crazy thing.
This week I have decided to focus on reflection photography, also known as mirror photography. I knew from the start this was going to be the most difficult and most challenging type of photography I was going to take. But … I was willing to put myself up for the challenge! I thought I would try using my iPhone XR this week because of how many photos I was having to take.
I had trouble thinking of ways that these pictures could actually work and turn out looking good. I googled, searched Pinterest and asked one of my friends that is a photographer to help me out and send me in the right direction. Usually, I find that Pinterest has the best ideas for absolutely anything but I can say google definitely stole the show in this type of photography. I noticed that it is a type of photography that isn’t as popular as others.
I can admit that I am really not a creative person but taking on photography for my learning project has really opened my mind to thinking outside the box. I was intrigued to take photos using a mirror, water, and to attempt with frozen ice. Mother nature has been playing some games with our weather this past week so all the ice that I had around me now turned to puddles of water!
I did some research on reflection photography before starting to take my photos. I got myself to think that this type of photography was intimidating and would be almost impossible to accomplish. After reading through some websites I learned that these types of photos are very similar to landscape photos. That blew my mind. 4 main tips that I found that would be helpful for this type of photography is:
Reduce shutter speed(to take multiple photos)
Use a tripod
Having a wide-angle lens (not mandatory but helps)
Using props to make your photos more detailed
I feel that these pictures didn’t turn out as good as I would have liked them too but I believe if I continue to practice them they will get better. If anyone has any other tips that they think would be good for capturing this type of photography I would love to know! So happy to have you following along with my learning journey! Also if anyone has any suggestions of what type of photography I could try next that would be much appreciated 🙂 Stay tuned for more photos!
